Proper agency management ensures the firm is profitable, clients are happy and the right talent is in place. The new year brings the opportunity to refresh your management strategies.
Below, I highlight some key trends to consider.
1. Centralize Information in the Cloud
It’s 2017, which means there’s no longer an excuse to not embrace the digital world—especially when it comes to centralizing your vital information.
Whether agency processes, call notes or client documents, strongly consider where information is stored and who has access to it. One way to do this is by having the right technology in place. Consider cloud-based tools, such as Basecamp, Yammer, Highrise, Google Drive and Dropbox. These allow team members to access information no matter where they are, in a secure and easy way.
While these technologies are not necessarily new, cloud-based solutions are rapidly increasing in the workplace. According to IBM, more businesses are transitioning from traditional solutions to cloud-based applications for increased agility.
2. Focus on Employee Experiences
Without talented and dedicated employees, your agency would not be able to function the way it does. If employees are not happy, chances are they will not live up to their full potential. Provide fulfilling experiences to ensure happy and driven employees.
This includes professional development and career-focused opportunities to utilize employee skills and areas of interest. If passions are left untapped, employees may turn to other companies that will provide them the chance to explore interests.
3. Create More Leadership Opportunities
Help create great leaders at your agency. Guide employees down a specific leadership path, and allow them to flourish. Provide the tools they need to succeed (e.g. technology, mentors, professional development), and look for opportunities to challenge individuals to meet their full potential. Also, listen to your employees to understand what they want—and need—as they grow at your agency.
4. Make Room for Flexibility
Ninety-five percent of employees who work in an environment where their manager is in-tune with work and personal life feel more motivated.
Flexibility at your agency allows employees to maximize time dedicated to work, balance outside interests and family, and work via their preferred styles.
Consider allowing your employees to work remotely (when appropriate) or utilize “flex time” to enjoy personal life activities outside of requested vacation time. For example, 80-90% of the U.S. workforce stated they would like to work remotely part time.
